A broken child

Being he father of a son who is gay,
Made me take the time to write this
If you look at your child
Just look at him or her as your child,
And not something that you do not fully understand
You will see that this child is your son or daughter
You will see that nothing has changed in them
What is changed is you the mother or father
Not your child
Remember this they are the same children,
That you loved the day before they told you

This morning I awake in pain and anguish
Sitting in this cold dark life alone
I think of my momories
I open my heart
Letting out the child hiding deep inside
Letting out the moments of happiness
Reliving my life of love and games
Thinking of my mother and father
My reasons for living
Wondering why this had to end
Trying to understand
A smile comes to my face,
As I see the games I played with my father
The trips we made just two friends together
I remember the days I would fall and hurt myself
All I could see was the love they had for me
The gentle touch of my mothers hand to make things better
The smile coming from them both
Their love was a blanket wrapped around me
The protection of their love for this little child
But now im alone in this dark room
I cannot see the sun or hear the wind in the leaves
I cannot feel their love or see their smile
For today they have left my world
Today they have turned against me
Closing their hearts and locking me out
As this light slowly fades
As the darkness enters what is left of my life
I can feel my life slipping away slowly
I can see the angels guiding me
The light has left now I look down at this cold body
I start to rise and float away
Today I died
Yesterday I told my parents I was GAY

kudos for your beautiful, heartfelt words.
my parents recently turned their back on me and i think its awesome that you have enough love in your heart to try and understand it all.

That makes me sad to see how a parent who once had so much love for their child can just turn away.
My brother is GAY and im ok with it, i love him for him and i will stand on his side forever! I just hope that my parents dont turn their back on him, and make him feel the way you did, dead:(
i wish you the best, and remember that you can only be happy being who you are, accepted or not, just be you!

sad, and beautiful. how could parents who say that their love is and always will be unconditional and then do this to their children, the ones who had made them in the first place? Sometimes parents don’t even take the time to understand, they are hurt so much, so much in their ignorance. to open up and to TRY to see the light in a different way takes real person. “If you never try to open your eyes, you will never see the light on the other side.”

Hello, my name is Denis and i wrote the poem THE BROKEN CHILD….I accepted my son being gay, I was reading the reactions from other readers and I would like to tell Manny that my son is not dead, the reason I wrote this poem is because of the kids that don’t make it when their parents turn their backs on them, myself the day my son told me, I hugged him and said its ok you will always be my son that i love.
