Late period with no PMS symptoms nor pregnancy

Hi, I am 5 days late for my period. I used pregnancy home test kit and came out negative. I am not sure if I am missing my period or not as every month I would usually have severe ovulation cramps on either side of my abdomen with loads of clear discharge, except for this month particularly.

Additionally, On this fifth day of waiting for my period, I am starting to have tender breast, leg cramps and back ache. Thinking of being pregnant is making me feeling nauseous too. Please help me..

Hi Yosha,
I’m sorry to hear about the concerns you’re experiencing and I thank you for your trust in AlterHéros. I will try my best to offer the best possible solutions for you. A delayed period accompanied by symptoms such as tender breasts, leg cramps, backache, and nausea can be distressing, especially when a home pregnancy test returns a negative result. But don’t worry, there are a few explanations possible in your case.
Home pregnancy tests detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). If taken too early, hCG levels might be too low to detect, leading to a false negative. It’s advisable to retake the test a few days after the missed period using the first morning urine, which is more concentrated.
Did something unusual happen this month? Are you more stressed or preoccupied? The hormonal cycle can be affected by a lot of factors. For example, stress, a change in the routine, unusual emotions or distress, excessive exercise, significant weight changes or dietary changes and hormonal imbalances can delay ovulation, subsequently delaying your period. This could also explain the absence of your usual ovulation cramps and discharge this month.
Given your symptoms and the negative test result, if the situation is bringing you much stress, it is important to consider to consult with a healthcare professional to eliminate physical possibilites. In the Philippines, several reputable women’s health clinics can provide the care and guidance you need.
• Kindred Women’s Health Clinic: Offers comprehensive, women-centered healthcare services.
• The Medical City’s Women’s Health Care Center: Provides a wide range of services addressing various aspects of women’s health.
• Likhaan Center for Women’s Health: A non-government organization offering primary health care services to women in marginalized communities.
• PULSE Clinic Manila: Specializes in comprehensive and discreet women’s sexual health care.
Consulting with a healthcare provider at one of these clinics can help you reduce your stress or receive a proper diagnosis and appropriate care if needed. They can perform necessary tests to determine the cause of your symptoms and provide guidance tailored to your situation. Remember, while online information can be helpful, it cannot replace professional medical advice. It’s essential to seek personalized care from a qualified healthcare provider to address your concerns effectively.
Wishing you the best,
